Law Libraries and Librarians

Social networking for law librarians and friends of law libraries

Are Facebook adoption rates as high as they say? It seems to me a lot of our colleagues are using it. Who here is on Facebook. Why do you/do you not like it?

I recently created a facebook page for the Online Bibliographic Services Special Interest Section of AALL. I think its a great way to promote OBS-SIS, to announce meetings and programs (events) at the upcoming AALL conference, to feed in valuable information to "fans" (such as from the TSLL TechScan blog), to allow members of OBS-SIS to proclaim their "Fanship," to network with other law librarians, and to put a face with a name.

Prior to that I had created a Barclay Law Library group to connect with current and former students and staff. It became a common meeting ground for old acquaintances (i.e. students/staff that had worked together years ago) to reconnect and to post pictures or videos from library parties, etc. I still find that it's useful to face/name check when asked for the occasional reference or when trying to remember former student workers.
