Law Libraries and Librarians

Social networking for law librarians and friends of law libraries

This may be a question for Jim ultimately, but floating an idea developed with a colleague not too long ago:

(1) what do you think about adding a chat room to this network (e.g. meebo)

(2) once a chat room is in place, using it for scheduled talks on specific themes for these purposes:
(a) professional development/instruction
(b) brainstorming ideas
(c) support for one another, such as when one of us has a problem to quickly solve
(d) other?

kind of like an online unconference session which we could spontaneously hold at any time.

Any interest?

I've just added a pbwiki as Scott suggested. It doesn't really integrate well--you need to pop out to a separate window--but it looks workable.

Thanks Jim. But, once I sign in I can't seem to work with it. Hmmm....

I don't have a lot of experience with wikis, so I'm not much help here. I'll take a look at it later. Maybe I need to do something with permissions--or even better, make you an administrator!

I feel it's helpful to know that this is possible, even if imperfect for now. I suggest that we tinker with the current wiki and frame, and see if we can make it fit nicely and work well for everyone. (Or you can create a test network and a test wiki to tinker with -- which I did last night before my comments.) Then, we can check out the WetPaint embeddable wiki when it comes out, and see if it's worth trying instead.

Scott, are you able to edit the Note Jim set up? Or is it just those with admin rights who can do so? Click into Jim's note from the front page and see if there is an edit button to the right of the note for you. Thanks! The Note feature seems simpler, but possibly not everyone can edit.

Cheers!

Nope, no edit button for me. I think that only administrators can edit Notes.

Wetpaint's embeddable wiki has arrived. They changed the name from "Balco" to "Injected" -- which is pretty funny, if you've been following the baseball steroids scandal. :-)

Actually, it seems to be more than a wiki; you could use it for many kinds of content.

I've requested an API key, and plan to try it on my mock Ning network. If it seems interesting, I'll let you know and post a link. Meanwhile, you can try it to see what you think.

I've added some more questions to the "My Page" profile: YouTube, FriendFeed, and Pownce IDs. I encourage everyone to check their own profiles here and fill in a little more information about yourself. Most of you still don't have anything more than your name and city. Tell us more!

Jim, I post to two blogs, our law library blog and one I set up to update my LLJ columns. Is it possible to list two blogs on our profile pages? When I tried, I got a long combined link that didn't work.

I did better than that: I included space for up to five blogs.
