Welcome, everyone! I don't think I've been to a law library conference where I haven't ended up talking about Star Trek, BSG, or some other sci fi, and I'd been thinking about starting a Trek group here for awhile. Betsy McK inspired me today to go ahead. Have fun!

I'd love to see what percentage of CS-SIS members join this group...

Awesome group! Is Sci-Fi a librarian thing?

Not long ago, an attorney contacted me through Facebook to say how cool it was that I was into Sci-Fi - he didn't know any other women who were. I replied that he must not know too many law librarians.

The same day I find out that Stargate Atlantis is being canceled, I learn that there is going to be a Battlestar prequel series (Caprica). When God closes a door...

I've heard about Caprica here and there for a few months, but not yet firmly enough to pin my hopes on it, lest the SciFi channel decide not to run with it. I'm optimistic about the pre-production news and scheduled dates for airing the pilot in various places!

Oh, and just a note--I used the first thing I could think of for the group icon, but I actually dislike it. It's the stereotypical shushing librarian from a cut scene of ST:Nemesis.

I thought about using a pic of Kirk and Samuel T. Cogley from ST:TOS, but Cogley isn't a librarian, he's a lawyer who thinks working with disorganized piles of books is a superior method to electronic legal research. Somebody send that man a copy of "Out of the Jungle"! :)

If anyone has a better idea for the icon, I'd be happy to change it!

Has anyone read any good sci-fi books lately? I read Chindi over the summer and it was ok. There was a good strong female protagonist which I find rare in sci-fi and multiple story lines - setting you up for sequeals I imagine. It was about an intergalactic library/museum that collected information about doomed civilizations - including our own!

Does anyone remember The Questor Tapes? The movie was intended as a pilot for a Gene Roddenberry series that never aired. The movie can be watched in bits on youtube.

Well, I don't know about a better picture. Though in the process of that quest, I came across this article and this lovely collection.

Love it! Thanks for starting this group, now on to discussing what's my favorite series! :-)
