Profile Information

About me:
Shaikh Mohamed Noordin has many years of experience in librarianship mostly in corporate and law libraries which former employers such as Malaysia International Shipping Corporation (MISC), Institut Bank-Bank Malaysia (IBBM) and Messrs. Raja, Darryl & Loh. However, he just recently resigned from the law firm Messrs. Tay & Partners as Managing Librarian. He was responsible for all library functions including acquisitions, collection development, monitoring firm’s website and publications and overall library and information services. He was an active member of Librarians Association of Malaysia (PPM) and was the first Chairman of Committee for the Malaysian Law Librarian Group of the Association. He is still the only Malaysian professional member of the American Association of Law Librarians (AALL) since 2000.

Course objectives:

• Enable participants to broaden up their prospective and understanding about the roles and duties of law librarians including their clients, their works, professional ethics and service commitment.

• Enable participants to identify and access various types of legal resources and know their level authoritativeness and usages, from primary to secondary sources, printed sources to electronic sources and to understand legal research process and how to develop legal research skills.

Participants: Law librarians from various government departments (14 participants).

II. Coaching / Advisory work

Law Librarianship Advisory and Consultation Planning, 18 December 2004 to 5 March 2005.

Objective: This advisory and consultation planning is aimed to develop basic and advanced core competencies in a new law librarian in the Firm in three basic areas i.e. Technical Service, User Service and Library Administration and also to know how law firm library operates in order to meet the current standards of practices of law librarianship.
