Social networking for law librarians and friends of law libraries

What do people think about the new hospital libraries? They are getting all info such as heart surgery and short term health insurance records recorded in a data base for retrieval in health care situations. Is it legal for all personal information to be available every where to everybody? It seems to be a convenient way to store all this information so that medical treatments can be done in a timely accurate manner. The accessibility is what I would worry about. What about in a malpractice situation? Would every hospital record/chart be able to be used in a deposition or court case? Who is responsible for entering this huge amount of this private data? How would the people be proven honest and intelligent enough to be privy to that amount of information? I believe there is a lot to be ironed out before an endeavor such as this would be attempted.
