Support FCIL Efforts and Help Make the AALL’s Annual Meeting a Global Event!

Hello:

While many of us are in the process of preparing for the 103rd AALL Annual Meeting in Denver, the FCIL-SIS Schaffer Grant for Foreign Law Librarians Committee is in the process of selecting its 2010 FCIL-SIS Schaffer Grant for Foreign Law Librarians recipient. As perhaps you know, the grant provides financial assistance to one foreign law librarian each year for purposes of attending the AALL Annual Meeting. We kindly request that you take a moment to read about the significance of this grant and how you can be a part of contributing to its important legacy.

The FCIL Schaffer Grant for Foreign Law Librarians was founded in 2000 with matching contributions from Ellen G. Schaffer and the AALL. Ellen, a long-time member of AALL and past Chair of the FCIL-SIS, envisioned and believed in the value of this international exchange and has been persistent supporter of this incredible opportunity. The grant has already brought law librarians to our meeting from all over the world, including the Kyrgyz Republic, Ghana, the Philippines, Georgia, Egypt, China, Australia and Afghanistan. As a result, we have had the opportunity to learn first-hand from foreign law librarians about their country's laws, legal systems, librarianship, and much more. At the same time, these visiting librarians have had the occasion to experience American law librarianship, learn about the American legal system, and to network with fellows professionals to create personal and professional connections.

The FCIL Schaffer Grant for Foreign Law Librarians Fundraising Committee has launched a fundraising campaign designed to raise enough additional funds to help ensure that fellow law librarians from around the world may continue to attend the annual AALL conference for year to come. With the help of donations from supporters such as you we can accomplish this mission. Would you please consider contribution to support this effort? Contributions may be made securely through the AALL website where you may specifically allocate your gift to the FCIL Schaffer Grant: https://secure.aallnet.org/giving_online.asp. If you prefer to make your donation by check, please make your check payable to "AALL" or "American Association of Law Libraries," and write "Schaffer Grant" in the "for"/"Note" portion of the check. Checks may be mailed to: Paula Davidson, Director of Finance and Administration, AALL, 105 West Adams St., Suite 3300, Chicago, IL 60603. AALL is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, and these contributions may be tax-deductible.

Your contribution to ensuring the continued presence and participation of a foreign law librarian at the AALL Annual Meeting is sincerely appreciated. We hope that you will have an opportunity to meet this year's recipient of the FCIL Schaffer Grant at the AALL Annual Meeting in Denver. You may be interested in viewing the attached document in which past grant recipients have kindly shared their experienced. (PastGrantRecipients.pdf) Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Best wishes,

FCIL-SIS Schaffer Grant Fundraising Committee
